Our thoughts: Tackling the breakdown problem

When it comes to the recent spate of breakdowns at Laurel, there’s a lot we don’t know.  In racing, not knowing a lot usually means inertia wins, and nothing happens. To its credit, the Maryland Racing Commission has nevertheless moved to take action to promote the safety of our horses and riders.

Rainbows and group hugs at MRC meeting

A rainbow spanned the grandstand at Laurel Park this afternoon.  But it was nothing compared to the sweetness and light flying around inside, as December’s meeting of the Maryland Racing Commission turned into the rarest of all racing occasions: a lovefest.
